A Turkish birth certificate is translated into English by a sworn translator and, if required, notarized in Turkey; an apostille, if the receiving authority requires one, depends on the document and the competent authority's procedure; where eligible we can help organise it, and its costs may be assessed separately. A multilingual or international civil-status extract is accepted without translation in some countries. Acceptance depends on the receiving country and institution, so confirm before you start.

Exceptions and special cases
Turkey is a party to ICCS (CIEC) Convention No. 16 (Vienna, 8 September 1976; in force for Turkey since 30 June 1985). Under it the Civil Registry (Nüfus Müdürlüğü, also via e-Devlet) can issue a multilingual extract of the birth record — Formül A — that is designed to be used without translation and is exempt from legalisation in the other contracting states: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cabo Verde, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Moldova, Montenegro, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland.
The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Ireland are not parties, so for those destinations a sworn English translation of the Turkish record is normally still required — and even inside a contracting state an individual university, bank or employer may still ask for one. Ask the receiving institution before ordering a translation; if the multilingual extract is enough, you do not need us for this document. Whether the apostille goes on the original or on the translation depends on the receiving institution. An old or handwritten record may require a recent extract first.
Turkish birth certificate translation for a first British child passport (HMPO)
If your child was born in Türkiye and you are applying for their first British passport, the Turkish birth certificate or civil registry extract is usually among the documents. GOV.UK’s first child passport guidance asks for certified translations of documents that are not in English, as well as the originals. Which originals you send depends on your application; HMPO tells you.
Online and paper routes differ. When you apply online, HMPO tells you which documents to send and how. HMPO’s guidance notes for paper applications ask for a translation signed and stamped by a translator who is a member of a recognised professional organisation; the same notes tell online applicants that they do not need to read them.
