How is a Turkish equivalence certificate translated into English?
Uğur Arı — sworn translator (Kartal 12th Notary Office) · Updated: 18 August 2026
A YÖK or MEB equivalence certificate (denklik belgesi) is translated into English by a sworn translator; an apostille is added when a foreign application requires it. It is usually requested together with the diploma and transcript. Barcoded / e-signed equivalence certificates are verifiable online and therefore suitable for translation.
Exceptions and special cases
This page covers translating the equivalence CERTIFICATE; having a foreign diploma recognised in Turkey (the equivalence application) is a separate administrative process.
Some institutions ask for the diploma, transcript and equivalence certificate together; translating all three at once shortens the overall turnaround.
Step-by-step process
- 1Send the document
Send the PDF or a clear photo of the barcoded equivalence certificate on WhatsApp. Free pre-review within 30 minutes.
- 2Written quote
Translation fee and any notary/apostille guidance, before payment.
- 3Sworn translation
Turkish ↔ English sworn translation; notarization if required.
- 4Apostille and delivery
An apostille is added for a foreign application; the certified document is delivered.
Does an equivalence certificate translation replace the diploma translation?
No. Most institutions ask for the diploma, transcript and equivalence certificate separately; the equivalence certificate complements the diploma rather than replacing it.
Does an equivalence certificate need an apostille?
Often yes for applications abroad. The exact requirement depends on the receiving institution.
Requirements and acceptance are ultimately set by the receiving institution, notary office or authority; practices vary and cannot be guaranteed. This page is general information, not legal advice.
