How is a Turkish power of attorney translated into English?
Uğur Arı — sworn translator (Kartal 12th Notary Office) · Updated: 18 August 2026
A power of attorney (vekaletname) is drawn up before a notary; a sworn translator then renders it into English and, if required, it is notarized. An apostille is usually added for use abroad. It is used for property, banking, litigation and company matters; the parties, the scope of authority and the date must be rendered exactly.
Exceptions and special cases
The power of attorney itself is drawn up and signed before a notary; translation follows that step. Your presence is needed to execute the deed, not for the translation.
If you hold a power of attorney issued abroad (at a consulate) and will use it in Turkey, the direction is reversed: a sworn translation from English into Turkish is required.
Step-by-step process
- 1Send the document
Send a clear photo or PDF of the notarized power of attorney on WhatsApp. Free pre-review within 30 minutes.
- 2Written quote
Translation fee and any notary-fee estimate, before payment.
- 3Sworn translation
Turkish ↔ English sworn translation, then notarization if required.
- 4Apostille and delivery
The apostille is affixed in the country of origin when needed; the certified document is delivered.
Does a power of attorney translation need an apostille?
Usually yes for use abroad, alongside the translation. The exact requirement is set by the institution handling the matter.
Do I need to be present for the translation?
No. A clear photo is enough for the translation. Presence is only needed when the power of attorney is executed before the notary.
Requirements and acceptance are ultimately set by the receiving institution, notary office or authority; practices vary and cannot be guaranteed. This page is general information, not legal advice.
